Janet Hobbs was the adoptive mother of Alexis Hobbs. She was married to Desmond Hobbs for ten years before he went through a mid-life crisis and left the family in order to travel the world.

She worked as a zookeeper at the small zoo in Willowshire until it was torn down due to lack of funding, and her boyfriend Mark offered her a better-paying job at the Denver Zoo.

While working at the zoo in Denver, Janet is mauled by a bear and died from a severe infection.

Alexis discovers that Janet was, in fact, not attacked by a bear, but by Mark. She was told that he was a safe vampire who wouldn't hurt humans and feasted on animal blood instead, however one night when Janet cut herself with a kitchen knife, Mark couldn't control his urge to attack her. Paul, Kim and Alex go to Denver to hunt him down and kill him - during which he confesses to attacking and killing several other citizens of Colorado, as well as Janet.

FUN FACT : Mae is my maternal grandmother's middle name.
